I don't like this reviewer. I don't like anyone who says my former 145 looks like an MPV...

quote:
The Alfa 147 Selespeed is an interesting car. It has a great engine, although it lacks a bit in the punch department. The transmission, although not as quick shifting as the BMW SMG transmission is still better than the regular manual gearbox. The interior is well crafted, taking a lot of traditional ideas, as well as borrowing some from the already-famous 156 sedan. The only thing left to say about it is the looks. Already, the 147 has been on sale for about a year now. People did not exactly praise the looks of it, but after that elapsed time, the public, and buyers are finally getting used to those beautiful lines.

Guys,

I just skimmed through the article and wentto the last paragraph...

It doesn't seem so bad. I think the guy has a point.

We all agree that the engine lacks a bit of punch...And I guess Alfa have accepted that by planning to put the 125kW JTS engine in the new 147.

We all seem to agree (on another threat) that the Selespeed is not as quick shifting as the BMW SMG II. Nothing new there.

And in terms of the looks, I think that is just a subjective area that you can't generalize by saying the 147 is good looking or not. People have different perception of design.

I think the article is OK.... the hideous comment about the 145 excepted ofcourse!

Wasn't a bad right up at all. Wasn't very well written, but his comments were fair; lacks punch, better at certain angles etc. But why oh why was he wearing gardening gloves to drive it? The man is obviously a journalist for a horticultural publication, but no mention of the 147's bedding plant carrying capacity was made.
Has anyone come across a decent road test for the 2.0 manual either in isolation or with competitors and not written by Alan Titty Titchmarsh either?

Simon, It depends wether you want a good or bad one I belive I own every magazine that had ever reviewed the 147 from pre-release test to the most recent.

Some give good reports some give bad. But they are a bunch of halfwits who like a car one week and hate it the next week. Autocar are quite famous for this.

I got a free copy of Ato Italia Magazine from Smart Alfa who just ordered my car through last week and as you can guess being an Italian car magazine they were rather favourable about it.

In fact I'm going to make anothe rpost about that magazine now.

Simon & Chappy,

This leads to a great topic....We all have access to good online 147 reviews thanks to links provided by G147 and others ( I have a few that I will be putting up on my website soon).

But Has anyone thought if it may be a good idea to scan and email 147 reviews from Magazine's in their country?

I have tried to get every Australian and British Car mag that has a review of 147, that I would be happy to make available to people if they are interested.

My Articles of interest are:

CAR magazine (Oct 2001): 147 part of 16-car shootout
Motor Magazine (Jan 2001): "Alfa's hip 147"
Wheels Magazine (Oct 2001): "Alfa 147: Italy's finest hatch ever?"
Wheels Magazine (Jan 2002): Sport Clio v Alfa 147 v BMW 318Ti v Integra Type R v NIssan 200SX v Subaru WRX
Motor Magazine (October 2001): Alfa 147 part of "Bang for your bucks" shootout with 17 ther cars
Motor Magazine (Apr 2002): Alfa 147 part of "Australian Performance Car of the Year" shootout.
Wheels Magazine (Dec 2001): Alfa 147 part of "Australian Car of the Year" shootout.
Wheels Magazine (Nov 2001): Alfa 147 v Golf GTi
