Key Fob

Hi

Having seemingly misplaced/lost my spare key, I was wondering how much I need to spend on a replacement. I have heard a number of figures, but if I still have one, surely it means a quick coding of a new extra fob?

Re: Key Fob

Main Stealer quoted me £204 yesterday and buying seconhand seems a farce in my experience!

Holy Moses!

Does it have to be a main dealer? Can an Indie do it?

Re: Key Fob

Buying secondhand is indeed the cheapest option but most hassle and fraught with problems. You still have to get the blade cut, you still have to get the code, you still have to get it programmed and of course the buttons etc are second hand. I got new. The black fob is redesigned so the buttons are stronger. Yes it seems alot of money, but there again everything you have to buy for the car that you don't want to seems a lot of money!

Re: Key Fob

Tried a main stealer and an indie to get my secondhand remote coded (didn't tell stealer it was secondhand just said it didn't work) and neither said it was possible to code!

Re: Key Fob

So they are telling you that if you have an original key that stops working then you have to buy a new one?

Re: Key Fob

If its an original key from the car its probably possible, apparently there very reliable but if you only have one key like I did and buy a secondhand one off eBay (theres plenty) it seems a bit of a lottery whether it can be coded or not, I was told if you have "the code" which you have to get from Alfa dealer then they can make central locking remote bit work but key will never start car as "chip" inside key is unique to car when it was made! Maybe someone can tell us different and if they can where is it possible to get it done?
