Re: 147 squeaky front upper wishbones - replace, rebush or regrease?
The strut lower horseshoe bracket needs to be removed from the bottom of the strut and lower wishbone. The pinch bolt onto the strut can be seized and very tight. The last one I did last weekend, a 51 plate 156 with 156K, had to be attacked with a grinder and heat to get it out. Fine if it slides out, then clean up with emery cloth and some copper grease before re-assembly. Sometimes a new ARB drop link is also required.
It should take 45 minutes per side, but I was at it for 2 hours each side due mainly to not having access to an angle grinder to begin with.
The new pinch bolt is not of internal hex design, but of male torx (meaning a female torx a required). The new nut with integral washer is also modified. I can suplly part numbers, but I suggest you should have reasonable experience and patience before attempting this. It should be quite easy, but is a pain if seized.
BTW, silicone grease oozed out of the new bushes whilst I tightened up the pivot bolt. Note which way this bolt and nut are fitted to prevent the bolt or nut fouling the spring afterwards. I got top arms from EB Spares for £29.50 each.
