Should I get a 156?
First post so, hello.
Now then, a little while ago my other half got her boss' GTV as a company car. It is a sublime car. Alas, the contract on it expires in October. We are debating what to replace it with. The company we lease from can supply basically any car to my budget. Unfortunately, we don't have the readies right now to get another GTV.
Alfa's have always struck me as more desirable than all the other "junior execs" around and I am seriously considering a 156. The one I am trying to convince my wife to get is a 2.0 JTS Lusso, black with red leather.
Will anyone seriously argue against it on this forum? She has been offered a Lexus IS200, but at the end of the day it's still BMW 3 series rip-off. Beamers are boring, ten-a-penny and too expensive for what they are. Audis - boring.
Obviously, since it is a company car we don't care about depreciation. The only thing that is standing in the way of an Alfa is reliability. The GTV dropped its timing belt right on 100k miles (165k km) necessitating a total engine rebuild. The fact that this happened the day before we were going down to the South of France didn't help Alfa's case in my wife's eyes. Whilst our friends drove down in SLK's, Nissan 200SX's etc, we had to content ourselves with a Volvo S40 - avoid like the plague! On a more serious note my wife does about 30k miles a year, breaking down is to be avoided.
So, would an Alfa be the right choice or not?
