Re: Is this the exhaust bracket?
Hey Sol, I have the same problem, on one of the cats where the arm with a hole in that attaches to the bracket, one is missing. There is no bracket at all!
My mechanic says he can get an arm thing fabricated/ made and welded on, then put the bracket on.
I'm not sure how essential it is, I mean there is a lot of weight on there til you get to the first rubber hanger (mine of which has deteriorated and one half has snapped, the others along the car are fine so obviously will replace that hanger but maybe thats an indication of the amount of weight on it.
There is a funny noise at start up, just had all belts, variator and water pump done too.
Im wondering if some of the rattle is due to absence of the bracket? Also where the manifold is, my mechanic said about repalcing the compression rings, which is the seal between manifold and exhaust, that will also reduce rattle and this will need to come off as he reckons the exhaust needs to come off when the welder puts the new arm extension thing on.
Is it Jamie Porter you refered to? Hes well recommended isnt he? Is that the same Jamie who writes in the Alfa Owners Club Magazine?
I'm wondering if its safer to get the bracket sorted, just incase there is a lot of weight on the manifold part as it may cause problems in the future.
As DavidC says, there is weight on there so I don't want the top of the Cats splitting...
