156 Rear Brake Caliper /pads

Does anyone know how to push the piston back into the caliper so that I can replace the rear pads. I have tried using a G cramp and undoing the bleed nipple and also tried tried twisting the piston. Help !! the car is up on axle stands and the wife wants to use it !!

Hi Doug,
You have to screw the piston back in to the caliper - there should be a hex socket on the face of the piston.
At least this was how you did it on my old Golf which had similar looking calipers to my 147 which might be the same as your 156...
Hope this helps,

Just did it at the weekend, easiest way is to buy the caliper wind back tool from halfords. It'll be 20 quid well spend since I doubt it'll be the last time you do the brakes. Remove the top from the refill tank to release the pressure. Anymore probs give me a shout.

Cheers Mr T

Thanks Guys - I think the wind back tool is best for the job - you need to push back the piston whilst turning it clockwise. I managed this without the tool and used a G Cramp and Molegrips.
