Idea GT V6 CAMBELT - When to change

I realise that it the 2.0l GT should really have a new cam belt every 36k miles. Is this the same with the V6? If so is it a much bigger job than the 2.0l? I had my 156 2.0 litre cambelt and tensioners changed for under 300 by an Alfa specialist. Aam I to expect a much bigger bill for the V6?

Re: GT V6 CAMBELT - When to change

I would change it every 36,000-40,000 miles myself. If you read the GTA section, the 3.2 does seem to have a habit of snapping the cambelt more often than the smaller V6's.

Re: GT V6 CAMBELT - When to change

I'm going to do mine at 50k/4 years, not a day/mile over. But if I had a 3.2 I think I'd probably do it a bit earlier. Some people reckon the slightly wilder cams put more strain on the belt.

Re: GT V6 CAMBELT - When to change

Agree with the above, 4 years for normal V6 and 3 years for GTA. Both mine were replaced after 5-6 years as cars were bought second hand and I had them replaced as soon as they were in my hands, both are low mileage though.

Will be more expensive than TS, here the Alfa dealer takes the engine out but since labour is cheap its not so bad. I believe its normally done with engine in the car in the UK but just extremely tight space.

New water pump is required along with the belts, bearings and tensioners. GTV water pump has a metal impeller which is more reliable than the standard plastic one and worth the extra if you plan on keeping the car.

156 2.5 V6 24v, Cosmos Blue Metallic, Tan Leather, 17 GTA's, 225/45 Michelin PS2's, Full Zender body kit, GTA Headlights, Eibach springs, Koni FSD's, Eibach Anti-roll bars, Ferrari 360 Brembo calipers, DS2500 pads, Squadra ECU, 45mm Intake Runners, Carbon Intake, Dan & Wizard exhaust

156 2.5 V6 Qsystem, Red + Red Leather, Bilstein dampers, DS2500 pads...soon Brembo calipers, 17" GTV Teles
