They do indeed contain a set of airbags each... Ok, security and safety is quite important, but what if this causes a serious crash like if you were trying to pull away from a junction and didn't see and idiot speeding in your direction and hitting you from one of the front sides? - Not much the airbags can do about that one!
Personal note here: I don't like airbags much, apart from the passanger one; the rest are just there to have something to talk about.
My previous car, a Fiat Bravo, had airbags in the seats (as does the 147) but when it got hit from the side, the airbag didn't do a single useful thing apart from put a whole load of smoke inside the car... when the dust had settled, the passenger's seat was jammed up next to mine and the handbrake was somewhere underneath the two weats...
But I still think that visibility is among the first priorities for driving safely...
