How many miles has the car done?
Approx 22,000, only 2,000 in the last year.
Has she been in any accident?
Has a full four wheel geometry check been done?
Several times by the Alfa garage, however when I had the toe-in independantly checked, fronts were toed in by 5mm and rears were within spec, also steering wheel was not aligned. This was after the main dealer said it was aligned. The independant could not do camber/caster check. One other garage was going to do the 4 wheel-ali and said camber/caster are not adjustable, is this so, if camber is out, does this suggest something is bent, I'll book it in (another £100 down the tubes)?
Camber is very important. The technician did put the car on the floor and loosen all suspension nuts (front and back) and noticed a clonk come from the front. He reckoned that the rubbers were "tensioned up"?
Why were the tyres changed?
They were the stock Firestones and were wearing, changed at 15000 miles. The new Bridgestones oddly appear to get hotter on the outer wall/than inner when driving on motorways.
Why were the alloys changed? Are they the standard size alloy?
The alloys are 205/55/16's and were changed because the local dealer reckoned all of my problems were due to an out of true alloy, which proved not to be the case.
When does the car vibrate?
The car vibrates at all speeds through the front of the car but is more noticeable when driving faster than 50mph.
Do you get a knocking noise? This would indicate roll bar/links. With the handbrake off, push the car at the top of the door sideways across the car, keep it rocking. If you hear a knock you have a roll bar problem, if not more likely something else.
I'll do the above later. I do get a knocking on the steering when (with ignition off) moving the steering wheel left/right across its full axis. I also find that when the car moves over manhole covers/undulations in tarmac the front right makes a double noise (e.g. normal suspension noise then another clack) as though something is loose in the suspension.
