Testing temperature gauge

My temperature gauge isn't working (at all). I can't find a decent wiring diagram for it though to test it.

The plug on the thermostat has 3 wires going to it. I presume this will be a calibrated voltage (5V?) and two returns - one for the ECU and one from the gauge.

Does anyone know what each pin is, and how to test whether the problem is the sender or the gauge?
