Had my car remapped by an indie recently, and performance is wonderful. We took it for a "spirited" test drive afterwards, and everything was fine.
Drove it the 23 miles home and no problems, but then had MCSF the next morning after driving for about half a mile, and thought "******"!. Turned around and worked from home then travelled back to the indie that evening. Just to be on the safe side, at my request he's remapped it with a slightly less aggressive map (he prepared two for me in the first place), and he's cleared the error codes for the time being.
There were two error codes.. first one was clutch switch circuit failure. Now.. I'd had the common clutch pin failure a while back, and at the time I did the botch up paper clip fix, then drove to the affore mentioned indie to get a new one, which he replaced for free. Decent!
Anyway, he didn't know what the error meant, and he's checking with alfa for me.
Today i set about putting an extra washer in the ball joint to stop some creeking (as recommended on a post in these here fora), and while down there I noticed what i thought must be the clutch switch (this makes sense, as it's a switch that butts up against the clutch pedal). I read here that it controls the cruise control, and i could see that it was depressed too far to be activated when the clutch sits in its default position, so i pulled it out a notch and fired her up! Now, turning on the cruise control actually turns it on (the light comes on on the console).. which hadn't happened before since i bought it about 3 months ago (though i've never really bothered trying to use the cruise control before)!
Excellent.. one problem down, i think, which leads me to my first question. Does the above error refer to a problem with the afore mentioned switch? Or is it something else entirely?
The second error was something to do with the MAF, and he mentioned that it might be on the way out. I asked him for a ball park figure, and he quoted about £270 which seems expensive for what is essentially a sensor, and so i've read various articles and posts that suggest you can get a genuine BOSCH part for less than half that.
The question is.. can anyone tell me what part number i should be ordering for a 55 plate 1.9 jtdm 16v? I've spotted a few around (such as these: Fiat Parts and Alfa Romeo Parts from Shop4Parts
& these - The Alfa Romeo Parts Shop
, but am a bit confused by the whole CF3/CF4 thing. Anyone know for sure?
I hope to revert to the first map after i get to the root of these errors. The first is lovely and smooth all the way up to 4500rpm, the second gives me a lot low down but drops off a fair bit earlier. Second one is nice, but i preffer having power throught the full range, and 60-100 take up was phenominal in 5th.. not to mention having to change gear less often!
