Reverse gear [Poll]

Hi Guys,
I have a Selespeed 147 and sometimes I have a problem with the reverse gear.
This happens sometimes when the car is hot. I have problem when I'm in Neutral to put Reverse. The only way to manage that is from neutral to go to 1st gear and then back to reverse.
When the car is cold, when I start it for first time (the car is in my garage) everything is fine. I can go from Neutral to Reverse.
What I think is that maybe the hot weather affects it. The temp now in Cyprus is 30 C.
I don't know what is going to happen when it reaches 42C.
Does anybody had the same problem?

Thank you.

I don't want to say anything negative about the 147 as some of the readers are getting sick and tired of hearing bad things about the 147!

So I will just say this....I only find reverse gear take a while to engage once you have come to a complete stop. This is a hassel only when you need to quickly reverse into a parking spot or whatever. Otherwise I'm not too stressed about the delay in engaging reverse gear.

I had selespeed problems during the first month (10 months ago). When the inside temperature was above 25 degrees, the main computer was malfunctioning. After the main computer was replaced the selespeed transmission works really faultless on my 147.

I have a 156 Selespeed and I have exactly the same problem. I live in the Middle East, so the temps are very. When trying to get reverse (even when completely stopped) it can take several attempts to get reverse. This only happens when the gearbox is hot, when its cold no problem. I have tried every combination of gear changes to get in to reverse - now I just try 1st then reverse until I get reverse. (Sometimes you just have to wait for a few minutes till the system decides to choose reverse on its own - maybe Italians don't use reverse)Otherwise the Selespeed system works fine so I don’t want to mess it up unless there is an obvious problem.

I have posted before about this same problem. Occasionally, whether hot or cold I have problems with engaging reverse on my 147 2 litre selespeed. Putting into 1st and then reverse usually works, but sometimes I have to actually move forwards a few inches and then try reverse. This always works. I also often get the Selespeed System Failure warning coming up either when I am parked and about to pull away or during normal driving (in city mode). It is annoying but I am living with it for now. The agents are as usual baffled and it of course never happens to them! They have re-adjusted the hydraulics several times, and changed the brake pedal switch to a supposedly newer "4 wire" version. They are now ordering a new hydraulic system. Failing that they said they will fit a new gearbox. Sounds radical but I am determined to get this sorted out before my 3 year warranty expires.

Try this when the problem happens:

When you try and engage reverse but it stays in neutral. Press the accelerator, does it rev freely or not? Mine feels like their is resistance, almost as if it is in gear with brakes applied.

This may be caused by the hydraulic actuator not fully engaging the gear? Hence the change of hydraulics next. I will let you know.

I have some doubts and still think it is a software bug but cannot get any answers here in Cape Town. Mine is almost a year old and maybe has older software installed. Anyone out there know about any software upgrades?
