Lower wishbone problem?

Just had my MOT test done and been given an Advisory Notice that both sides front lower suspension arm have slight play in their ball joints. The car has done 93,000 miles now, and the front suspension is original except for drop links and R.H.B. Bilsteins. There is no uneven tyre wear and no knocking over bumps, though I do think there may be some minor bump steer that wasn't there 10,000 miles ago.

New wishbones are quite expensive at about £182.50 a pair for genuine Alfa or about £100 off ebay, and then the cost of fitting.

Do you reckon worn ball joints would give bump steer? Or would there be some other effect? Alfa or ebay?

Re: Lower wishbone problem?

I got some lower wishbones from a local motor factor. The make they supplied was First Line and the mechanic who fitted them said they were of the same quality as Alfa Romeo ones - they cost £160 fitted (including the ARB drop links).

Re: Lower wishbone problem?

93,000 miles is pretty good for the original wishbones.
I would replace them with original replacements as the pattern ones don't last as long. Unless you are not planning on keeping the car for too long.

You won't usually realise how bad the ball joints are until you swap them for new ones, as they can deteriorate slowly and you don't really notice it.
