alfa 156 mot failure warning
Hi guys, I had a 1999 156, I was the second owner from 40k adoctor owned it first. It was fully servied from new. I owned it up to 84k. I did the timing belt, variator, tensioners, starter motor. idle control valve. crank sensor, battery, upper and lower wishbones, full stainless steel exhaust and more. The car looked to be in pristine condition and drove like new. Before putting in for it's MOT (it had passed every other one 1st time, no problem) I made sure everything was working, I had a look underneath and it all looked intact. I put it in for the MOT only to be told that underneath the intact looking underseal the floor had in fact 90% corroded away. I went to the garage to see it when it was still up on the ramp. Although the floor skin is double skinned the outer skin was all gone the only thing holding it up was the underseal. This means the seat belt mounts were too weak. The jacking points had no strength and the car was essentially scrap. so if you think you have a good looking 156, get it checked underneath even if it looks ok.
