Well, following various problems, I decided to get a replacement MAF unit that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
I had heard that Alfa do reconditioned MAF units, which I reckoned was the way to go - having read all the negatives about the Ebay MAFs. My thought being that if the Ebay ones were £39, then spend the extra tenner to get a recon one from Alfa.
So I phone up.."How much mate?" I ask......FFS
£170 for a rconditioned bit of plastic.
Sorry -- this kind of shear greed drives me insane.
So decide to do a phone round, and I popped into my local motor factors Mobat. I just give them the Bosch part number - an dthey come back to me saying they have the same part by Lucas, brand new, for £48
I I plumb for that one, thinking if there seems to be so much trouble with not very good Bosch ones, then Lucas can't be so much worse.
But theres a twist in the tale - before fitting it, I put the plug back into the Bosch unit, which is still in the car.
Low and behold, it's now working.
So do I fit the Lucas one anyway, or sell it and recoup my £50.
