I know this is a stupid question and I will check my manual tonight for the correct procedure but.....
How do I start my car? What is the procedure for starting a 147 selespeed? If I turn the key one notch (M?) I get the check active thing for a second or two, then if I try to start the engine it will not start and I get an error beep (no message). I then have to turn the ignition completely off and then on all the way in one motion to start the engine. Why?? I am confused!!! Does it matter if my foot is on or off the brake?

As mentioned before, do not take your foot off the brake before the turning ignition key to "Start" (to crank the engine over). If you apply the brake, then take your foor off, before you start the engine, you WILL get the warning beeps, and have to switch the car off, and start again!
Cheers guys, played around last night and you are indeed correct!!! Foot on the brake is the way to go! I was obviously doing it sub-conciously without actually noting the procedure!! Also found the parking mode which I had not discovered before!!
God I love this car, its flippin marvellous!!!
Oh, nothing really exciting. I just discovered while reading the manual that there is a "park" setting in the ignition before the "stop". You have to push the plastic stopper on the ignition in to turn the key to it so I never noticed it before! All it does is turn the side lights on when parked and allow you to remove the key without them going off.
If you put the gearbox in neutral before turning the engine off you don't have to put your foot on the brake to restart it.
You'll get lots of beeps when turning it off as according to the manual you're supposed to leave it in gear but I've never been one for parking cars in gear unless on a really steep hill.
You may notice that if you start the engine with the gearbox in 1st it'll shift to neutral as soon as the engine fires.
At least this is how it works in my 156 Selespeed. The programming may differ in the 147.
Here's something else to try - see if it'll let you put it in neutral while moving at a reasonable pace. I accidently shifted to neutral once at 100km/h but that must have been a glitch as I haven't been able to do it since. I haven't been game to test the safety programming - will it let you select reverse while moving forward.
