If you jump it, I would hook it up (as normal), let the wife's car run for a bit to try and charge your battery, then turn it off. They try and start the GT.
From memory jumping Alfa's off a running car is generally frowned upon for ECU reasons.
Ref fusebox on battery, once you undo the main battery clamp/nut it just lifts off as I recall.
Any decent halfords should have a battery tester, ask them to test it first before you buy a new one...
Could also be bad earth, if its not the battery, although never heard of this on a GT, the symptoms you give are what happens when things are trying to earth through other circuits and you get a dashboard disco.
