After getting attitude from an Alfa dealer, I thought I wouldn't give them any more money than I had to and I got my 147 from Motorpoint of Derby, which took about 3 weeks. It's right that you only get what they have, but if you make sure they have what you want (if you know what I mean!) then it is not too bad.
I wanted a selespeed, 5-door, in silver. Metallic paint, momo leather, 17" super sport alloys, comfort pack, climate pack, and winter pack were all welcome extras! Not bad for £15,800 including road tax, as this spec would be nearer £20,000 from a dealer. They just took a credit card deposit, and I paid with a banker's draft on the day. I wasn't too fussed about the leather, but hhhummmm, it's great
Only complaints are that the sales folks can be quite brusk and elusive when you want to ask them anything, and they tend to have a 'take it or leave it attitude' (except for the guy on the gate, who was incredibly cheerful!) which comes with shifting so many cars. The valet was rubbish (cost £50), with sticker marks still all over the place, and one of the tyres I've noticed was put on in the wrong direction. I was also kept waiting for 2 hours to collect, and it was only when I got a bit shirty that things moved.
Car is great, and that's all that matters. Considering I had a scooby before, this is the first car I've had that people have actually walked on my drive to get a closer look - weird.
I've had the VDO/ABS probs, but have booked in my local dealer, who thinks they will sort in out while I wait. When booking they said they have had 3 imports this week with the same problem, which is usually sorted in pre-delivery inspection (PDI).
As an aside I've also got a VW Sharan which I bought from a dealer, and have nothing but trouble with getting things sorted, including the fact they 'lost' the service book, and have tried to fob us off at every opportunity. If this is the 'good will' that you are meant to pay for via a dealer's coffee machine then it's the import route for me from now on.
