Whoa, a litre and ahalf to get to the STICK!!! I would certainly be going back to the garage that did that service, this sounds like they never put ANY oil in after the service.
1 litre/1000 miles is the limit on oil consumption for these engines, but if it's using that much then it's about to die. It's not good to be burning that much and I think you may have some serious problems right round the corner, watch the oil pressure light and listen out for any tapping noises that start to get louder over a few days. Don't be too paranoid though, as fresh oil can be clear and to the untrained eye it can look like there is none there, so your first checks post service may have had oil on the stick but it just wasn't visible.
If it continues to burn oil at that rate though, I'd suggest geting the engine compression tested to find out which cylinder is losing it.
