156, 2.5l Q-System... Starting problems!
I've had the 156 for several weeks now; it's been great!
But, today for the first time, it point-blank refused to start!
I'd driven to work and had stopped and started 2 or 3 times without any problems.
After approx 2 hours, I went to move the car and jumped in to start it.
Turned the key and..... Nothing!
Now when I say nothing, that's not strictly true.
All the ignition lights came on as usual, the usual clicks and buzzes could be heard under the bonnet and then with the final turn of the key, nothing!
After several attempts I decided to call the AA.
whilst waiting for the patrol man, I had a browse through the handbook.
The immobiliser section caught my eye, but the yellow light in the clock cluster was going off when it was supposed too.
When the AA guy arrived, he also at first suspected an immobiliser problem, but after a few checks, he also ruled it out.
He connected a meter to the battery, which again, appeared to be OK.
He then turned his attention to the starter motor, but once he discovered where it was hiding, he decided to call up the relay truck to take me home.
I was told that it would be about 45 minutes before he would arrive so while I was waiting, I did a few more checks.
All fuses appeared OK, battery connections and various plugs and sockets checked, so sat back in the car to await my lift home.
With the ignition switched on again, I checked the various dash lights again.
This time I did noticed that the tiny indicator that signals that the rear nearside door is open was not illuminated!
Out of curiosity, I jumped out, opened the rear door and shut it again.
I jumped back into the car, turned the ignition... All lights now illuminated and then fully turned the key.
I was then greeted by the sound of v6 burble!!!
What the f....!
Now, I really don't think my actions were what brought it back to life... were they???
I called the AA to cancel the pick-up truck and drove home... making sure I didn't switch the engine off!
Once home, I tried it several times and it started every time!
I'm calling the garage tomorrow, but does any of the above ring any bells?
Anything else that should be checked?
