'Bedding in' belts/tensioners - is this a **** take?
Got my cambelt, variator, tensioners, serpentine belt, valve seals etc done last week. When I picked up the car all was well. I drove it a couple of km back to work, and noticed a tapping sound that increased with revs. Drove it straight back to the workshop, mechanic had a listen and he said it could be a faulty balance belt/tensioner. I arranged for a replacement which I have now.
Trouble is, it hasn't made the same noise since. It sounds fine, much much quieter than before the service, and no tapping noise. I spoke to the mechanic today and he said it's not uncommon for the belts to 'bed in' after installation. Sounds reasonable to me - can anyone more knowldegable confirm?
I don't want to spend the extra money if unneccessary; but by the same token I don't want a snapped cambelt either.
