I don't subscribe to the "no running in" theory.
On a new engine I would keep the revs below 4,000 rpm for the first 1K 4,500rpm for the next 500 miles 5,000rpm for the next 500miles & so on. Giving the engine 3 changes of oil in the first 10,000 miles.
this allows the engine to loosen up progressivly. After that I'd change the oil every 8,000 or after every track day.
Went cold I never rev above 3,000rpm, when it reaches 60degrees I'll go to 4,000/4,500,
And only readline when the engine has been at full temp for at least 5/10 minutes.
I had a normally 4½ hours drive on sunday & I did it in 3¼ hours. I realise that even now at 66,000 miles my boxer is as free reving as ever, if not more so.
Once every 10,000 I give the car one tank of superunleaded treated with Redex, to clean things up a bit.
Look After your alfa & it will look after you. Clean her, feed her & she'll look after you giving a you huge smile when you drive.
