My 147 used as target practice today

(moby, you'll sympathise with this - sounds exactly the same as what happened to you a while back).
I was turning right from a main road into a side road this afternoon when a girl (who was quite nice, actually) pulled out into the side of me while I was halfway across the junction.
She has admitted full responsibility- she didn't see me for the sun, and hopefully her insurance will pay for everything. I have the lovely prospect of driving some crappy, basic courtesy car for some weeks.
My once lovely red 147 is sitting in my garage with a battered drivers door (it won't open) quarter panel and two blown airbags (side and roof).
The damage to her Peugeot 106... a cracked front bumper. Life's not fair.

Cool. So the airbags deployed and you lived to tell the tale? Tell us more.

Hi Chris,

Late last year, I put up a post on an accident involving a Red 147. I stopped to help out the lady driver who was quite shook up.

Unfortunately, seems like the post was deleted after the servers were changed over or somthing....

Anyway, I happened to have my digital camera with me, and I took a couple of shots of the car, to show the airbags deployed.

You can check them out and tell us if yours looked anything like this!

Hi Stef,

I was looking for these pics, I remember seeing them a few weeks ago.

My car isn't as badly damaged as the one in the pics- the door hasn't been bashed in as much and the door sill looks ok. You can see the side impact beams underneath the sheet metal, like the one in the pics. I will try getting my hands on a digital camera, and post them on the site during the week.

As for the airbags, the side airbag that comes out of the seat is about 30cm square and splits out through the seat fabric at the front edge of the seat bolster. The head air bag is like a big sausage that comes out of the edge of the headlining from the back end of the rear 3/4 window forward to the front grab handle.

Hi Chris,

I feel for you mate believe me.

I was absolutely gutted when this happened to me. I actually got my car back on Thursday last week and it looks as good as new.

You need to be patient whilst it is being repaired.

Mine does need to go back in though as there is air noise coming through somewhere where they havent hung the door quite right (take yours out and check for this when you do eventually pick it up as it is well annoying)

Be patient mate......these things can be repaired. i was thinking that the car would never be the same again after the crash but these old body shop boys know what they are doing.

Make sure you give the body shop the paint reference number which can be found on the side of the tailgate.

good luck

I think that I would be in serious trouble if someone had to bash my baby. I mean that i would have no choice but to torture them relentlessly to try and get some semblance of revenge! Touch my alfa and die all you road users!
