Changing Aircon Compressor - DIY job

Got a good secondhand compressor for my 2001 156 JTD, and the compressor change is just 3 bolts as I can see.

But if this is the case, how can I slacken the belt to get the old one off, and once swapped, are there any tricks to re-tensioning the belt to correct settings -- I'm only to aware / afraid of Alfa cambelt 'issues'

PS - If I have to get a garage to do it, can a good 'ordinary' garage do the job, or must they be (expensive) Alfa or Alfa specialists? If so - why.

Re: Changing Aircon Compressor - DIY job

Technically (unless your gas is already empty) it would be illegal for you to change the compressor because you would be deliberately releasing CFC's into the air ... but ... once you've changed the compressor you're going to have to take it somewhere to get it vacuumed (by exposing the innards to the air they will get condensation in there) before being regased ...

... I would personally recommend taking it to a good indy air con specialist to do the work (as you're going to have to take it to them for the re-gas work etc anyway) ...
