Alfa 147 Arrival

Hi All ....

My new 147 finally arrived today (2.0 Manual, Nuvola Blue, Black Momo, 17" Supersports). After many months of 'lurking' I'm in a position at last to become a true Alfisti!!

There's not much to report just yet, except for being another victim of the infamous ABS / VDC system failure - looks like a trip back to the service centre to sort that one out (thanks to NumanRacing for top advice in earlier posts)!

I'll have to wait until the weekend to give her a proper run - let you know my feelings soon after.

I have one question though regarding the keys for the car. From previous posts I was under the impression that all new Alfa's come with a 'Master' code key, from which all other keys are programmed. Can I confirm that this is the case with the 147 also - the manual states the car arrives with 2 keys - I'm assuming one of these to be the master.

Hi Ares,

I hope you'll enjoy your 147 as much as I do. Every drive gives me a big smile on my face.

About the keys: my car was delivered with two keys and a 'creditcard' with essential (code-)information. As far as I know, none of the keys is a master key. A few weeks ago one of the keys was replaced because the unlock button of the remote control wasn't working properly.

Hi Ares

Enjoy your new car, the smile will be hard to remove. There is nothing like the feeling of picking up a new (or "new" secondhand) car, especially if its an Alfa!!!!

Have fun

Hi Congrats!!! It is an excellent feeling! ;-) When I got my car I just received two keys, none of them is a master key, they used to do this with Fiat's and Alfa's but the dealer explained to me they got rid of the system, I wouldn't know why however.

Hi Ares
Your car should come with two identical keys, both are identical in all respects except their internal code.
The master key system is only used on the "Code 1" immobiliser system as used in the GTV and Spider. The 147,156 and 166 use a Code 2 system that is different.
In the Code 1 system the Master key was required to program replacement keys (supplied as blanks)into the immobiliser. The problem with this system is that if you lose the master you cannot program any more keys (or delete them) from the system unless you replace the immobiliser and engine computers.
In the Code 2 system keys are not supplied as blanks but as pre cut keys from the factory which must be ordered by chassis number through a dealer with proof of ID. Then the keys need to be programmed into the car with the diagnostic computer using the security code and any keys not present at that time will never work again.
This system is better because even if all the keys are lost it is possible to purchase and program new keys into the car.
Best Wishes
