156 Speedo

Just had to change a bulb in the speedo (not my day for bulbs), removed and disconnected it OK and changes the blown bulb and refitted. Now have a nice glow all around the dial,
the trip counter has reset to zero, no biggie but it got me wondering.
As the mileage is the same as when it was removed, is the mileage held in the speedo or elsewhere in the electronics?
If you replace the speedo, do you get the mileage from the other car, or zero if bought new?
Anyone experienced this if swapping from black/orange to white/green dials or vice versa.
The 156 is my 1st car with electronic mileage, my old Alfas and Saabs had the good old fashioned mechanical mileage counter.

...if wishes were fishes, we'd all cast nets...
