1. It depends what you were expecting. The 1.8TS 156 has a pretty good engine but it's no supercar. The official figures say you should get from 0-60 in a shade under 9.5 seconds in ideal conditions. It's well known the twin sparks do perform best over 3000 rpm. For instance the page title of alfa156.net is 'Fun starts @ 3000'.
2. There may be a few exceptions but it seems that the aircon in the 156 is universally a bit pants. According to my mechanic the aircon in mine is in good working order but it barely makes a difference to the temp inside the car. You can tell when it's on, but only just.
