When I went to open the door for the first time a fear came over me, I was actually scarred of the thing aware of the reputation and mystique that surrounds them!
In an outright performance context Yes! The R34 is incredible, its not the power so much but handling that left such an impression. It just doesn't move reminds me so much of a properly set track Grale point it, set and it just goes through the corners. You wouldn't believe you were in a car of about 1500 kilo's!
You can drive about like being in a fiesta and the next minute destroy an M3 (sorry just had to get that in) without any fuss or bother.
You honestly feel invincible against anything else on the road and I just kept looking for BMW's, couldn't help it! It acts as if you are on rails and the one I was using, did a 60 sprint in about 4 secs I reckon!
For all its outright performance and I think this is relevant of most non Italian 'supercars' it isn't the car that excites but the speed related danger and they aren't the same thing.
Still I can honestly say hand on heart when I got back in the Alfa and fired her up the smile was their instantly and I new which I preferred!
If I could afford the £50 grand ish price tag I would still prefer a tuned 16v 33 because it involves and excites like no other car I have ever driven, for all its flaws, just a pity the mechanic sees more of it than the owner!
Anyway enough 100% failure of Clarkson come cars the star imitations!
