I think theres something else worth chucking in here. I think the build quality of a car is very much a reflection on the nation that produces it.Bear with me...
The germans are, as we all know, a very disciplined nation and sticklers for rules and correctness. This attitude, this approach to life will be reflected in the goods they produce. Electrical goods, white goods, machinery, and of course cars. Build quality from Germany is always high and their cars are a typical example. I think the same goes for some of the countries in Asia, particularly South Koreo, where the Daewoo is produced. Again you have a disciplined and focused nation and this comes out in the goods they produce.
Now, look at the other side. Other countries that are big producers of cars e.g USA, Italy, France and even UK (just about). I would not consider any of these countries to be 'disciplined' in their approach, life is a little more relaxed and IMO normal! So, this approach to life is going to come out in the goods they produce just like above. And the proof is there - build quality of cars in Italy is not fantastic, and its the same for american cars, french cars and british cars.
If you look at it another way, I couldnt see a bunch of Italian engineers sitting in a room on a Saturday night trying to design a glove box clip that clips in to a slot with pin-point accuracy. But I could see a bunch of german engineers doing just that!
Okay, so its a light-hearted situation but I hope you can see what Im getting at.
Anyway, its just a theory of mine. But certain nations do everything very well and its no coincidence that the quality of goods they produce stem from their own personal goals of perfection.
Was that too deep?...
