156 Suspension knocking

Hey there,

Got very bad front suspension knocking on the 156 sport with lowered set up and 16" wheels. Sounds like the noise you get at around 60,000 miles when shocks and bushes are gone. Except I've only clocked up 6,000 miles. What's up? Want to get some gen before going back to dealer. You know Alfa dealers, you have to go armed with info or they'll send you home and tell you to take an aspirin!

Also suspension creaking over speed bumps (driving slowly) had this before when anti roll bar on a Peugeot was knackered.

Any views?

Hi Kendr, 156 front suspension noises:-

Squeaking over humps etc, sounds like from the corners of the dash? Thats the top wishbone joints creaking, unfortunately we haven't had much joy by just lubing them so replacement would be neccessary.

No real problems with knocking from front, most probable cause is wishbone(lower) or anti roll bar, never had any problems with top mounts or shocks on the front.

Knocking from rear?
Trailing arm bushes pull out at very low mileages on younger cars, this can cause a knock.

Hope this helps.
