I'm a little dumb about these matters so bear with me.
I obviously get my alfa services as and when the book says so but is it good practise to change the oil every 5-6000 miles?
I used to do this on my calibras and do the full service myself everytime but I would rather put the alfa in for the full services so that its done properly!
What I want to know is, what do the garage actually do when servicing? They obviously change engine oil, filter, fuel filter and sparks (when needed)................but do they check and change gearbox oil or check anything else.
I also want to know what the best way to do an oil change by yourself is? I got told engine flush was a lot of rubbish on the calibras but my garage used it on the alfa in the last service.
Is it as simple as running the old engine for 5 mins and draining it whilst its hot/warm then changing with new oil?? or are u supposed to use engine flush every time? When I done an oil change on the cally some folk told me to use cheap oil of the same grades and run this for 10 mins to break up and flush the engine then drain that and put new oil in!!
basically I'm confused so how often and how should I do an oil change (bearing in mind the annual/mileage ones will be getting taken tot he garage)
Thanks guys, please don't laugh at me but I'm just not sure as I've always had old vauxhalls since I was 19
