Currently driving an Octavia VRS (1.8T) which has been an excellent car - had it for 2.5 years and many miles without fault. Can be driven slowly or quickly depending on mood. Excellent cruiser - very quiet. Get a realistic 35 Mpg on long term average. Huuge boot, very practical, etc, etc. It's just that I don't need all that practicality
Seriously considering swapping to a 2 year old GT JTD, so joined the forums to listen & lurk for a while.
I'd also really appreciate any words of wisdom...
There seem to be plenty of 2 year old, low mileage (10 - 15k) JTDs with leather interior around for £13K from dealers. Seems like a lot of car for the money, but some questions spring to mind, including:
1) Is there anything I should be looking out for/ questions to ask on this model/age?
2) I'd expect to keep it for 3 years then sell (with 65k miles). Any comments on the reliability to be expected over this kind of time frame/ mileage?
3) Any big bills to anticipate (timing belt change?) - if so, what sort of cost are we looking at?
4) Any suggestions on the best places to buy from/ avoid and places to use for servicing? (Based in Chesham, Bucks but happy to travel anywhere to make the initial purchase).
Apologies if any/all of the above are FAQs - if so, please just point me in the right place.
