technical help please

Hello out there. I think my selespeed pump is faulty and need some advice. Gears aren't engaging and car sometimes falls to neutral whilst changing on the move. I uncovered pump cover to check the pump. I've noted there is 26 volts going to the pump for approx 20 seconds when key is turned to mar. The pump itself makes no noise (the actuator does). I can feel no vibration or movement from the pump,i Don't know whether I would though.
Clue 2 - fluid is milky from the bleed screw in the actuator though in the res it's clear.
clue 3 - the level of fluid in the res doesn't alter when pump should be active.
Life must have been so boring before I got my 156!!
All comments appreciated

Some mornings it barely seems worthwhile gnawing through the ropes.

26V... I'd assumed it would be closer to 12V...!

If the pump isn't running, then you need a new pump.

Re: technical help please

If the fluid is milky then there is water in it. Maybe someone topped it up with water thinking it was the windscreen washer bottle. This will certainly destroy the pump.Next to the battery on the engine side is the pump relay. There is two thin wires going to the relay plug & two thick wires. Plug the relay out and short the two thick wires on the relay plug with a piece of electric wire. The pump should run. The ignition does not have to be on. Further testing will require the battery & cradle be removed & the bleed screw removed to see if any fluid is coming out when the pump runs. This is also the way to bleed /flush the system. Jumper cables from the battery to the car will be required for this test.
