414b Paint Problems

Greetings all alfa heads,

I own a 00 reg 2.0L 156, azul blue, paint code 414b. I have had the car since new and it has given me more than my fair share of trouble sinece day one but it has also give me a lot of pleasure and the design is just way ahead of almost everything else on the road.

I am about to fit a brand new engine, steering rack and shocks and I want to tidy up some minor paint work damage on the bonnet, bumper and wing. I am in the bodywork business myself and know how difficult this paint is to match so I took it to an Alfa dealer that has its own body shop but the painter there refused to take on the job as he says its too difficult to match the paint correctly. To be honest I don't blame him.

This leaves me with the task of repairing the damage myself so I am looking for tips from anyone who has experience in matching this 414b colour. I know that it takes many coats of paint to get the colour right - question is how many? All tips greatly appreciated.
