Re: Is it worth contacting Alfa about a snapped belt?
The European Union changed the law 10 to 15 years back so that in the EU NO car manufacturer can artificially keep prices high by insisting its warranty only be valid if cars are maintened at a main dealer. The manufacturers fought the change but lost, thankfully. You ve done NOTHING wrong by getting the car serviced at an indie.
I dont know how this appplies to compensation payments and only agreeing to compensate if a main dealer is used, but as long as a car is maintained by a competant garage that is VAT registered, the warranty will STILL be valid.
The belt should be replaced at 5 years/72,000 miles and it lasted 4 years/60,000 miles. Its Alfa's fault NOT yours, dont worry or feel you dont have a case, you ve done everything you should have, but their product let you down. If they dont pay at least 80% and at an indie, then I d go straight to the press (Watchdog, Which) for help.
