Well well well, Alfa Romeo have just rang and they are prepared to contribute half of the bill.
Apparently it would have been 80% if I'd have taken it to get fixed at a main dealer ... but then the repair would have come to a lot more and I'd still end up with the same bill at the end of it all.
Really wasn't expecting that, I thought there would be so much wriggle room for them: out of warranty, only one service away from being changed anyway, being repaired by a non-Alfa main dealer, serviced by a non-main dealer twice. 50% still leaves me footing a £500 bill myself but the cambelt change service would have cost me that so I'm still happy.
... that cheque will just about cover my half of the kit car bill after the suspension died - having the sliding pillar setup replaced with wishbones and adjustable shocks. If it's not one thing it's another with these bl00dy cars!
