ECU Reset ??

Got a pinging sound from engine, 4th gear aprox 30mph.
Sounds to me like the timing is out or when cars whent from 4star to unleaded and timing needed altering.
Timing belt is 6000 miles young, new plugs and system redexed, still the same.
Question is.. can the ECU be reset by disconnecting the battery for 45 mins then re-connecting, running for 10 mins without touching the accelerator and then taking for a run ??
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Re: ECU Reset ??

You can reset it but i can't see how it might help in this case. Sounds like the knock sensor has packed up.
