Back in November, I pranged my car and got a new wing, headlight etc. The bodyshop did a good job, but when I got my car back, the dash said the nearside sidelight had failed. I assumed a bulb had gone. Didnt think much of it. After a week or so, got round to buying a bulb, but whilst trying to fit it, I broke the prong that leads to the bulb housing unit. Gave up trying to fit it myself and thought, I'll get my garage to change the bulb next time I get a service.
They did . . . put a new bulb in. No joy. By this time I had worked out that it was an intermittent fault due to a probable loose connection, and not actually a dud bulb. If its warm outside, I dont get any failure light coming up on the dash. If its cold outside, I do. If I put my dipped beams on, after about 10mins of driving, the sidelight fault disappears - (as if the heat from the bulb unit makes the connection work again). Once the bulb is on, it doesnt fail, so its defo an expansion/contraction problem.
Its driving me nuts! Unless it is a really hot day, every time I turn on the ignition, that dreaded "beep beep" sounds, and the sidelight failure warning comes up on the dash. Other times, I could be driving along, and it beeps every ruddy 5 minutes as it connects, then disconnects again!!
I had my car in the garage again this week to get a new tailpipe and rear wiper motor. Asked them to look at the bulb issue again whilst my car was there, but they were very reluctant. Said it would entail removing the bumper, stripping the headlight unit, etc. (Ie it was a lot of bother and they'd charge me hundreds for it).
My question is, has anyone else had this prob, and did they get it resolved?
Also - the bodyshop where I got the initial work done obviously caused the fault (as I had never had a light problem prior to them fitting the new headlight). . . . do I have a leg to stand on if I
take the car back to them and ask them to fix it? Its now been 8 months since they did the work?
Thanks for any help you can give.
