Have no fear. I am 99.9% sure it will be tyres - its a typical Alfa 156/147/GT issue. Basically caused by differential wear. Sounds like a droning / humming sound - it could be mistaken for worn bearings.
I've got Michelins on the front of mine and new (less than 10k miles) Goodyear F1 GSD3s on the rear. The Goodyears have about 5mm of tread left on them but if you put the car on the ramp and spin the rears you can see they are out of shape - there is a flat spot which is causing the droning sound. However at £95 a shot they can stay on for a bit longer. Going to put PZero Neros on the front to replace Michelin's which have about 2mm......
