Re: Increasing shuddering under light acceleration
Right, I've got the assessment from the garage. Forgive me if this is garbled as I'm not in the slightest technically minded! They say (something like) a spider joint bearing (?) in the outer section on the driver's side driveshaft has collapsed and that this will necessitate the replacement of both the inner and outer sections (of the driveshaft or CV joint, i think) and a CV boot to resolve the issue (all needs changing apparently due to the spider bearing not being available individually from Alfa Romeo, apprently and some possible damage to the inner section as a result of the vibration). Does that make sense? I've been quoted £495 inc VAT including all parts and labour, does this all sound about right to do the trick?
I'll let you know how it goes when I get the car back next week. Hopefully this information can help other people with the problem (if all goes well).
Can anyone help me understand why this would have caused the symptons only and certain speeds and why it seems fine accelerating at all speeds but around the 60mph mark? It seemed fine going faster which would seem counter-intuitive to me if a bearing had collapsed!
