Help Alfa 156 Jtd Won't Start+++++

HI Think I've read about this before, but I can't find relevant thread.

My 1999 156 2.4 JTD 10v 136 has just refused to start. Thought I'd ask your advice before calling AA.

I was driving into work, a 10 minute trip, and stopped at the shop near work. Two minutes later I jumped in and Alfa wouldn't start.

The Code light came on and went out as normal. The Injector light lit then went out as normal. All other lights did as they always do. But when I turn the key, just a click. No starter motor noise, no engine!

The battery was replaced within the last two months, with the correct Alfa battery from Turin Motors in Leeds. I'v tried a couple of time, and all lights on dash are behaving, All electrical systems are working, (Windows, CD player, Remote Locking) but no starter turning over. It started fine over the weekend, and first thing this morning. I've read something about people's hot engines refusing to restart, but can't find anything. Should I blame my mate who asked me to get milk from the shop?

Check the battery cables are tight.
I had two cables snap at the battery clamps.

Sounds like a sticky starter motor or solenoid. If it was something to do with the imobiliser the engine would still turn over but not fire up.

AA bloke came 15 mins after calling him, very friendly & polite. Apparently the starter motor was loose. It had sheared a bolt off and was hanging off.
Been towed to a garage and await to see if the bolts can be replaced or if I need a new bell housing for starter, which may be a gearbox removal job. Hooray.

Re: Alfa 156 Jtd Won't Start+++++

Well after a load of crap luck, I may have had some good. The boss heard I'd been towed to Nationwide Service Centre and insisted his mechanic mate looked at it instead.
Got Alfa bump started with a tow from Bosses RR Vogue SE, then took it to bosses mate. Two hours later, the boss is taking back to his mate's garage to collect Alfa. He removed the sheared bolt by welding a small dot onto the end of the bolt and removed it with a wrench. No drilling or re threading or gearbox removal req!
New bolts plus a bit of labour should cost £50.
Amazing what a bit of brown nosing gets these days!!!
