Fuel tank vent

When I remove the fuel cap on my 156, the hissing and pressure coming from the filler neck is pretty intense! Do the breather pipes block up at all, and where would they be located?

Re: Fuel tank vent

The fuel tanks no longer vent to open air.
Fuel vapours are piped to a charcoal canister at the front of the car and then passed into the intake at specific times.

So it is normal for there to be a hiss from the tank when you open it.
It should be air rushing in, not air/vapours rushing out.

Re: Fuel tank vent

I think the air is definately rushing out on mine. I'll have to check the pipes that go to this canister.

mmm This is the Topic I've been looking for. I know its old but I need some Info.

I'm busy with a Turbo project on my Plassy top 145. (Same setup as the 156)

Seeing that there are no breathing system om this setup. Can I use the Blue plastic line that comes from the tank to the vapour tank, as a return line?? Reason for this.. The 145, 147 and 156 dont have a fuel return line from the fuel rail to the tank.

What do I have to do to the tank to get it to breath?
