ive noticed that you got gendans new alfa software for the pre 2004 JTD, i was woundering if you could help me with it abit... what sort of cable does it come with as ive got a kkl VAG cable sitting at home....
The italia check package I bought came with an "ELM327 OBD-II / EOBD car interface", therefore I presume that at the "interface" level the serial protocol is the same for OBD-II and EOBD, it just that the messages have a standard format for EODB across manufacturers
have they sorted out the updated live sensor readings or is it still just fault codes....
Nope, italia check still only reads/clears codes, when I talked to Dean at gendan he said that getting the live stuff working is harder than the originally thought ... (not unsurprising for Alfa/Fiat stuff)
.... what protocol does it use to read the ECU
Don't know I'm afraid ... all I know is that it works ... and if things work I don't tend to delve into the details of why they work !!!
does your engine check pro use live data readings??? and does it work on the JTD pre 2004??? oh and will this work on my 1998 2.5 V6 aswell or do i need a seperate OBD2 to read this ecu???
Yes engine check pro does provide live data readings ... although for my '52 JTD (interior facelift) the values produced don't seem to be quite right, for instance rpm at idle is reported at about 260rpm, it does increase proportionally with speed ... therefore I presume that although the software is picking up the values the data provided by the ECU is not in the exact EODB standard ...
I very much doubt that it will work with your 1998 v6 ... although it won't break it if you try
ive also got my self an ELM 327 reader... how good is this item... do i need better software than the crap it comes with??? i dought it will work on my JTD but was hoping it would work on my V6
The only stuff I've used previously to interface with cars was with my 1998 2.0 TS 156, with that I used an ELM327 cable with alfadiag ... I sold the ELM327 cable when I sold the TS ... although thinking about it it would have probably worked with my JTD
Gendan do a a free evaluation version of the engine check software Gendan EngineCheck :: Free evaluation version
it is a cut down version of the software ... but it will at least allow to to check the connectivity ...
(the reason I bought engine check pro was primarily to interface with my wifes scenic ... and I just thought I'd give it a try on my JTD)
Hope this helps
