156 Variator & cam belts

Hello all, hope everyone ok. I am in dispute with the garage (non dealer) where I bought my car from, they refuse to deal with a noisy variator that has been rumbling from day 1. I want them to sort it out, and may have to go through a solicitor, my query is, as the cam belts will obviously need to replaced at the same time, is it safe to continue using bearing in mind my car is a 156 and now done 51,500 miles?
Thanks for any guidance on this one.

If the belts havn't been changed at 51000 then I wouldn't drive it until its done. You can drive away with a shot variator forever if you like.

Had mine changed all at the same time! If you bought it "sold as seen" you may have a battle with the dealer unless covered by a warranty.

Re: 156 Variator & cam belts

May just be best to find a good Indy and fork out the £400 to get the Cam Belt, Tensioner and Variator all done asap. I wouldn't trust a non-Alfa expert to do the work, and it would give you peace of mind once done.

But I know how you feel and you don't want the garage to get away with not fixing something, that really they should.
