Not Happy alternator woes - I think

Can anybody help.
Have a 7 year old 156 2L T Spark, started giving me problems since last week, first speedometer stopped working, then the car wouldn't start. I replaced the battery 5 days ago. (3rd battery in 3 years) Now battery light is coming on intermittently, ABS and Brake light stays on. Car is no longer recording mileage.

Mechanic is suggesting - alternator, anybody had a similar experience?

Re: alternator woes - I think

i had an alternator fail in my TS 156. from memory, the car had done over 120K km's; plus i had a big stereo/ICE install.

my warning light was flashing on/off too, but none of the other issues you mention. i may have caught it early.

had it replaced. the voltage regulator is part of the unit.

best to have it serviced/checked before it fails and your car becomes undrivable.

Re: alternator woes - I think

if your recent battery repalcement solved all problems temporarily; then yes your alternator is almost certainly the problem, but the other option is a drain on the battery. a drain is very easy to test for with a multimeter, so before assuming the worst check for a drain.
