Ok, so I've not sold the GTV yet, but I'm already looking for another project.
A local garage across the field from me (yes, I live in the sticks) has got a W-reg 156 sitting in their yard (farmyard, that is
). It's been there a while, so I made some enquiries about it.
Basically, it blew a radiator hose, and the engine (1.8 tspark) is cooked. It belongs to a dealer up the road, so I asked them what their plans are for it.
They've basically not thought too much about it (other than acknowledging it's costing them money), but are either thinking about putting a new(er) engine in it, or breaking it for the leather interior, wheels and scrapping the rest. They reckon they'd get about £500 for it (£200 for the interior, £150 for scrap and the rest for the wheels). That's without factoring in costs involved in breaking it.
I've asked them to give me a call when they've thought about it more. If I was to take it off their hands to put a new engine in it, how readily available are they, and how much do they go for? Alternatively, if I was to buy it to break it how sought after are the parts, and are there any particular parts that sell well?
Overall, it's a nice car. In black with black leather (possibly a Lusso). About 65K on the clock (rather immaterial), and has been sat for a couple of months at most. The dealer reckons book price for a good one is about £1200.
