Driving a 156 economically.
Normally running a 156 GTA (V6 / 3.2 litre )and an Aston Martin DB9 ( V12/ 6 litre), I give very little thought to their petrol consumption figures, since both are quite thirsty when I drive them. I was recently loaned a 156 1.8 and embarked upon a journey well in excess of 30 miles, only to find that the reserve light came on immediately and there were no filling stations en route. I made it home and, being a skinflint tightwad, then put a £5's worth of gas in it. After a limited amount of local driving I then set off two days later to return the small engined 156, but this time taking a spare gallon can of petrol with me !
Again, almost immediately the reserve light came on so I put the gallon in the tank and I arrived safely at my destination over 30 miles away.
Needless to say, I drive in an extremely frugal manner, coasting downhill, using the slipstream of big trucks and NEVER making excessive use of the go faster pedal. I quite impressed myslef with my economical driving ! Does anyone know how far you can generally get in a 1.8 156 when the reserve light cames on ?
