Agreed. Mine was the same when I got it. I got the dealer to change it for me.

Through a dealer it's nearly 200 for the thermostat change. Thermostat its self is about 70 or so from Alternative Auto's.

Re: 2.4 Jtd engine temp

It may not be your thermostat but the gauge itself.
My 1.9JTD shows just over the line between 50 and 90 (assume 70 if linear). I bought an ELM OBD reader to check this and confirmed that the water temp was in fact ~85 when the gauge read 70. I am also pretty sure stat is ok as could see that the water temp dropped a little as it rose to 85ish (as the stat opened and cool water entered the system from the radiator).
Just a thought - there are also threads showing that others are experiencing an inaccurate temp gauge.
Edit: If you're ever down in the Stockport area, drop me a PM and we can plug the OBD reader in to check your temp - assuming your car is compatible (Post 2003 I think?).

Re: 2.4 Jtd engine temp

Thanks for replies! looks as if I need a new thermostat then, will have to wait a while before I tackle it though - might take up kind offer from Stockport (if I can stand the congestion round there) and get it checked. Just changed front antiroll bar links this morning - that turned out to be a right pain too (just like side light bulb), had to grind o/s lower nut off and theres not much room to get to it - 4inch grinder out of question, anyway its done now, genuine alfa links and had to buy new nuts seperately!!!!!!
