Possible Clutch Master Cylinder Problems
Hi, Im having a problem with my clutch, so thought id come to the forum that usually solves all my problems!
Before i start, its an 51 reg alfa 147 - 1.6 16v
Ive been reading past threads, and people seem to be having problems with their master cylinder, in relation to fluids. i saw a picture someone put up and from that, i think its my master cylinder thats broke, but its not a fluid problem.
Now (i apologise for lack of car jargon), in the foot well, the clutch pedal seems to have a ball joint to the left of it, that connects to a socket that looks like its part of a hydraulic system that disappears inside the engine. now is this hydraulic system the clutch master cylinder? because the ball of the clutch pedal keeps popping out of its socket, causing the pedal to shoot to the floor. i got the green flag out, and he cable tied the ball back into its socket, said it was a temporary fix and sent me to get it fixed.
I'm at my girlfriends, in New Galloway (Dumfriesshire), the pimple on the backside of civilisation, and the guy who runs the local garage seems to have even less knowledge of how to fix this than i do, the cars second hand, out of warranty, don't want to go to an Alfa dealer cos they'll take me to town over the price, so what would everyone recommend? is it the master cylinder thats broke, has anyone had one replaced, how much did it cost, is keeping a bunch of cable ties in the glovebox an option?
