156 Wheel Front Bearing?
Hi, i have a whirring noise form the font passenger side wheel - it sounds a bit like moroway tyre noise but has appeared recently and the tyres have not been changed . It happens at about 25mph upwards, regardless of engine speed or gear also when declutched. I am an experienced mechanic and suspect the wheel bearing obvoiusly. The trouble is in my experience front wheel bearings drone rather than whirr. At hi speeds the noise resonates into the cabin and is quite loud indeed. As the replacement bearings are £70 i thought i would ask if someone else has had this before shelling out. There is no play on wheel bearing but as so often on front bearings that may not be an indicator. Then noise amplifies when i brake too, then as the speed drops to about 20 mph it disappears.
Any ideas are most welcome.
Thanks in advance.
By the way the car is 156 sprtwgn on less than 45 000 miles and in sound mechanical condition.
